Summer Camp for…ADULTS!

Our youth Summer Camps are extremely popular and a lot of fun (click here if you want to find out more or register your 5-8 or 9-12 year old), so this year we decided to expand our Summer offerings and let adults get in on the action!

In addition to our Potter’s Wheel workshops (every Sunday in June – click here for complete info), we’re offering six different one-session workshops for adults in July and August.

Check our website for full listings, but here are the programs offered:  Embellished Papers and Fibers (7/24), Simple Books (7/24), Coil-build Clay Planters (8/5), Beyond the Pinch Pot: Sculptural Clay Vessels (8/5), Scratching the Surface: Printmaking (8/14), and “Full Palette:” Painting and Pastel (8/14).

Join us for one or more of these exciting programs by clicking here and registering online, by emailing registration@dia.org, or by calling (313) 833-4249.  We hope to see you there!

Cristo Rey Mural Collaboration

Cristo ReyFor the past several months, DIA Art Studio instructor and artist Vito Valdez has been working with 14 9th-grade students at Cristo Rey – a new Catholic high school on the SW side of Detroit – on a collaborative mural project.  The mural is now finished and will be installed in their school before the Fall semester begins.  Vito was really impressed with the dedication of the students and their beautiful work on the mural.

This project was made possible by a generous contribution from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

The DIA Evening Post

Throughout the recent Norman Rockwell exhibition at the museum, hundreds of our visitors created their own “DIA Evening Post” magazine cover  in our Drop-In Workshop.  You can still check out the spectacular results displayed on our Flickr page.

We’re really excited that the DPS student show returned to the museum this year!  The 72nd Annual Student Exhibition is installed  in the beautiful gallery space in the new Gibbs Learning Center, part of the Wayne and Joan Webber Education Wing,  right across from the Art Studio.  Check out fabulous work from young Detroit artists.  The exhibition runs through May 31st.  See more images of the work by clicking here.
